Day 10-  Leviticus 26:27 – Number 8:14

Overview:

Tribes of Israel Shaped Like a CrossDay 10 sees the conclusion of God’s commands at Mount Sinai and we enter into the book of Numbers.  Moses has obeyed God and instructed the Israelites how to live & worship.  Now, God asks Moses to take a census.  The camps are arranged by tribe with the Levites directly in front of the Tabernacle.  The Levites are given to sole task to take care of the tabernacle and to perform duties for God and the community.  In all, there were over 10,000 Levites who were involved in maintaining the tabernacle and the activities that encompass it including transporting it.  God instructed Moses to send out any physically unclean people outside the camp and also have anyone who has wronged another to make restitution according to the law.  Instructions were given to anyone who wanted to make a special vow to the Lord to be dedicated to Him.  Finally, the Tabernacle is dedicated to the Lord and offerings are given by each tribe.  After this, the Levites are purified and presented to God to begin their service at the Tabernacle.

Scripture Numbers 6:22-27

22 The LORD said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:24 “‘“The LORD bless you
and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’

27 “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”

Observation

The camp has been organized and instructions have been given to live by the Lords commands.  When every detail has been instructed and obeyed the Israelites were ready to begin to live with God and serve Him.  The Tabernacle was at the center of camp and that symbolic position is just where God wants to be in their lives.  He then instructs the Levites to make sure that they give His blessing to the Israelites as they interact with the Tabernacle.  God wanted His name on the Israelites and he wants to bless them.

Application

Just as the camp of Israelites had God’s presence at the center of their camp, He wants our devotion to Him to be the center of our lives.  My son said to me, “Dad, do you know what shape is made when you position the tribes as God instructed?”  He reminded me that they form the shape of a cross.  Jesus Christ has done away with the need for a Tabernacle because of the work he did on the cross.  He was the final sacrifice.  He makes our bodies a living temple when we put our faith and trust in Him.

Prayer
