1 Thessalonians 1:1 – Philemon 25

Overview

Day 84 of the Bible in 90 Days brings us through 6 different letters written by the Apostle Paul.  Thessalonians was written to the church in Thessaloniki because they were being persecuted.  Paul wrote to encourage them and express his thankfulness for them.   Paul also wrote 2 letters to his close friend and associate Timothy instructing him to oppose the false doctrines being taught in Ephesus.  He also includes instruction for conduct for believers and pastors.  Later he asks Timothy to visit him one last time before his death.  Paul also wrote to Titus to encourage him to finish the work at Crete and to bless his ministry.  The sixth letter from today’s reading is Philemon.  Paul had become friends with a run-away slave who became a follower of Christ while he was with Paul.  This was the slave of Philemon.  Paul is encouraging Philemon to welcome his slave back because they are now brothers in Christ.

Scripture – 2 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that all God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Observation

God Breathed ScripturePaul is writing to Timothy encouraging him and providing instruction to him and his ministry.  Paul reveals that all scripture is given in diving revelation through the author.  It should be used to teach and train fellow believers so they will be ready to go out into the world and share the Gospel message.  Paul states that this is for all God’s people.

Application

We can be thankful and know that the words we read in the bible are given to us from the one true and living God.  The WORD is perfect because God is perfect.  As each author was inspired to write, God was there with each stroke of the pen.  As we read God’s Word, we should remember it is for our benefit.  God gave us His Written Word so we can use it to prepare ourselves for every aspect of ministry towards our friends, families and acquaintances.

Prayer

Thank Lord for your God Breathed Word.  It is reliable and true.  It reveals your wisdom and love for your creation. Lord you are awesome!
