Psalms 89:14 – 108:13

Overview

Many of the psalms are devoted to the response of the author to a particular situation.  We see that praise, petition, prayer, and pondering are all various types of outpouring given as the author wrote the psalm.  As I encountered Psalms 104, the author was praising God for His creation.  He describes many details found in creation that are carefully thought out and sustained by our Heavenly Father.

Scripture Psalms 104:24-25

24 How many are your works, LORD!   In wisdom you made them all;   the earth is full of your creatures.   25 There is the sea, vast and spacious,  teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.

Observation

This psalm was written by someone who saw God’s direct involvement in the natural surrounding where they lived.  The sun, moon, trees, living beings, plants, water and many other carefully planed & created necessities for our survival are all identified.  The author recognizes the wisdom that God must have to create and sustain all of the creatures everywhere in our world large and small.

Application

God is not hiding from us.  He makes Himself know to anyone who desires to seek Him.  God reveals Himself to us in two primary ways.  First, through his General revelation (nature).  The author of psalms 104 clearly credits God for everything from the streams and grass to the sun and moon.  One look at nature points to intelligent design rather than coincidence.  The bible says that the heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays his handiwork.  All we have to do is look up!  Second, God reveals Himself through special revelation which is God’s Holy Word.  The scriptures are not just words written by people about their experiences (like this blog).  The Word of God is given to us By God through people.  2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”  Our Lord is revealing Himself to us.  We just need to respond.

Prayer

Thank you God that your creation points directly to you and your magnificent wisdom and power.  Your Word from Psalms credits the detail found in your creation.
