1 Corinthians 15:1 – Galatians 3:29

Overview

The reading for today was found in 2 Corinthians and Galatians. Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians was written in response to the joyful news he received about problems  the church had addressed as well as some questions from the congregation.  Galatians was another letter written by Paul to those who live in Galatia.  There were people who were causing trouble telling new Christians that they needed to follow the law and do good works for salvation.  Jews and false teachers were telling them that faith alone in Jesus Christ was not enough.  Paul was writing to make it clear that we are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus without works.  Paul emphasizes his authority as one of the Apostles of Christ.

Scripture Galatians 3:26-29

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Observation

Child Of God

Child Of God

Paul is talking about an amazing relationship we enter into when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ.  All of those who are in Jesus are “Children of God”.  We are protected by God’s judgment because we are covered by Christ.  God does not look at us by our race, social status or sex, He sees us as His children.  Because we are God’s children, we are also children of Abraham and have received the blessing of being chosen by God.

Application

Putting our faith in Christ is a game changer.  It gives new life to the believer.  We have the confidence of spending eternity with the one who we love most.  It isn’t something we earn or deserve.  It is a gift to all those who believe.  Our position is now “Child of God” rather than “evil sinner”.  God doesn’t look at our outward appearance but our sincere heart.  If we trust in Christ we are saved from our sin and inherit all of the blessings of God’s kingdom.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you that I am considered one of your children.  I praise your Holy name.  Let the same love and kindness you show me radiate through me to others I encounter.
